Is it too bold to ask God, “Hey where should I be going?” or “Am I going in the right direction?”
I just LOVE this question from an online visitor! I say be as bold as possible with God!! How can we have a REAL relationship with someone if we can’t be honest and say what’s on our mind? God is no exception. God is the One who knows us inside out, the One who loves us most passionately and is MOST invested in our future. God wants you to have your heart’s desire. Listen to God’s words in Jeremiah 29:11:
"For I know well the plans I have in mind for you. Plans for your welfare, not for woe. Plans to give you a future full of hope.”
We cannot withhold ourselves from God, hiding behind some artificial formality, as if we can somehow create distance between God and ourselves! I sometimes encourage people to LEAN on God a little … not just for support, but almost to put some “pressure” on God. I say this with a smile! Lean on God like you might with a beloved parent: “C’mon, Dad, let me borrow your car.” Or “Mom, can’t we look at this again?” Jesus himself told his followers that if your neighbor doesn’t give something when first asked, he will finally “give in” if the asker is persistent. I think too many people speak to God from a safe distance, rather than engaging God like a friend or a loving parent or a beloved in heart-to-heart communication.
While I hear worry or frustration in your question (which is totally okay with God!), I also sense that you are developing a familiar, intimate tone with God—like one you might use with a close friend. What good friend or loving parent would not hear your sincerity? In the same manner, God’s heart would be moved to allay your anxiety and hear your earnest request for guidance. Already in your very questions you are implying, “God, You KNOW where I should be going. And I want to follow that.”
Be bold and honest with God. God’s heart is strong enough for a sincere heart-to-heart!
